Given the hundreds, perhaps thousands, of jurisdictions throughout the world that issue vehicle license plates it’s necessary to focus the scope of this website. The site features three states (Delaware, Michigan and Pennsylvania), one District (District of Columbia), and one country (Ireland). It highlights plates issued to passenger cars, including personalized plates, but only in passing does it touch on other types of license plates (eg, commercial).

The plate collections shown for the three states and DC are not fully complete “runs” (ie, plates from every year of issue to the present). However, the gaps are steadily decreasing as missing years are added. Pride of place at the moment goes to the oldest issued plate in the collection, an enamel 1907 automobile license plate from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
